Since Armand was stressing out about what happened in that event, he broke his promise to stay by Desiree 's side no matter what happened, lost all his parental job because he judged way too early and didn 't analyze or didn 't ask for any help. Desiree, in the other hand, would have handled the situation way differently and very good to know considering the fact she seems to be the person in charge in that moment. She would have probably told Armand about the letter she had acquired and told him he was from a black ancestry. Kate Chopin showed also that in the Old South, the women were loved, cherished, and taken care of by the husband. The men in return got served by them and got good times out of their wife. The responsibility that women showed would have been serve the husband, have the house in good conditions, take care of the children that they had, and have free-time to be with their husbands no matter what time he wanted. They did not have any business being involved in the economy, political, or social problems that came up for the family. Since she did not know how he would act and she had no responsibility over any household items, she had to flee because she got told to leave by her own husband.
