Themes Of Monty Python And The Holy Grail

When we watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail I noticed a few theme that the movie had touched on that interested me. So for it to have some themes being satirized in it is no surprise, but the ones i want to talk about are some very memorable jabs at previous examples of epics. The themes I will talk about is historical reference, supernatural elements, and king arthur’s court.

The story is based in the middle ages before the Norman Conquest in England, they actually reference this by having the French in a fort in England doing and I quote “None of your business, you English pig!” This is probably a foreshadowing of the conquering of England.

Another Element that is present is the presence of supernatural forces. This is represented by

Timeless, witty, and stupid in the best possible way, Monty Python and the Holy Grail continues to captivate audiences 41 years later. The Medieval spoof is layered with jokes ranging from potty humor to complex attacks on monarchy and social classes, all within a span of three minutes. It is safe to say that almost anyone, young or old, educated or not, or male or female would give this movie a four or five stars. The plot follows and rewrites an ancient legend we all know well, King Arthur and his pursuit of the Holy Grail. While the technical aspects aren’t anything awe-inspiring, they bring a certain element of rawness to the film’s overall goofy feel.…

Monty Python and the Holy Grail likes to mock just about everything that went on in medieval times, such as the black death and chivalry and the black night. Some of the violence is funny because the black knight just acts like its nothing “tis but a scratch” then once all his limbs are gone he continues to bite at king Arthur. I would say they are just a bunch of role players none of them have any idea of whats going on half the time. The black death is made fun of when they walk through a village where there is just poop and dead bodies and people crawling everywhere. In Beowulf and Sir Gawain the heroes are actually heroes in Monty Python everything is a joke they're is no chivalry or heroism…

“A Knight’s Tale;” The Story of One And Everyman Many medieval stories were meant to be told to large audiences of common and noble folk alike and as such, these poems and songs had to be relatable enough that the listeners belonging to either social class could immerse themselves in the tale. The nobility often wanted to hear stories of brave knights on virtuous quests for honor and glory, in hopes that it would spur a similar adventure in their own lives. Conversely, the peasants and laborers of the time preferred to be entertained with humor and light-hearted characters, in part to distract themselves from their own taxing lives, and also because the adventures of knighthood were far from their reach. While the storyteller’s need to bridge…
