Freshman Year Seminar
Between The World and Me Final The book “Between the World and Me has a lot of themes. One the themes are is knowing who you are through college. Just to pinpoint I will be highlighting Tanesha Coates which is the author of Between To the world and Me”. The things that happen in “ Between the World and me” and my my life experiences through college is very different. Specifically, my experiences has affected me in way rather than the main character Coates in the book. I will be analyzing my life experiences and Coates life. As seen from the text, Coates “some years after I left school , after I dropped out of college , I heard a few lines from Na s that struck me: The words were “ Ecstasy coke , you say its love , it is poison , schools where I learn they should be burned , it is poison”. Having this idea can make someone not want to go to school. I never heard poison an d school in the same sentence before reading this book. Clearly his views about school were influenced by others. This different form my life story in so many ways. I always went to school. This pretty much went from pre-k to college. I never really stopped learning. Also, some summers were included. In my culture if you dropped out, it was a big deal. This made your family very concerned for your future. I believe being a Haitian individual is about community. If one of us gets hurt or messes up we all get hurt and mess up.
