Themes In The Truth About Alice

The Truth about Alice is a novel written by Jennifer Mathieu. The purpose of writing a project is to educate the readers about the book that they may be interested in. By reading a report on a novel you will be able to see if you are interested or not in that book. Within this book, the author, Jennifer Mathieu has included three themes. These three themes are texting and driving, partying, and how word travels fast when you live in a small town. I chose these three themes to write about because they are the most important and they show they show us, the readers, how they can really effect or change many people’s lives. The novel begins by one of the characters, Elaine O’Dea, immediately stating that Alice Franklin, another girl in the book slept with two guys in one night! (Mathieu 1) Since Elaine says that the readers get the hint that Alice is a girl who gets around with a bunch of guys. The night that Alice sleeps with these two guys, Elaine was throwing a party, which shows that these girls are into partying, drinking, and doing things that are not too smart. In this book texting and driving is a big deal. Tommy never told anyone what really happened the day Brandon died, so everyone thought it was because he was distracted by his phone. In the novel, Elaine says, Brandon crashed his car because Alice was sending him gross texts. (Mathieu 70) The reason why texting and driving is such a big deal in this book is because the most popular person at their high school and the most important person on the football team. Everybody in town mourned for months of the death of Brandon, nobody ever got over it. Alice was the one who was most affected by the death of Brandon because she was accused of killing him, when in reality it was his best friend, Tommy Cray, who really killed by distracting Brandon and making him
