Common Themes In 'The Future Of Us'

In the book, The Future of Us, by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler, I found multiple common themes. The common themes I noticed were: Actions, change, friendship, and trust. In this thematic essay, I focus mainly on the themes of action, change, and friendships. The perspective changes every chapter between the main characters Josh and Emma.
One theme seed idea I see is: actions. When Emma starts to mess with her present life, it creates a ripple effect, and her future turns out differently. Emma doesn’t like her future and becomes jealous of Josh, whose future looks great. Josh can’t control what his future will be, but Emma takes advantage of this and kisses Josh when she knows he used to like her 6 months ago. Actions change what happens later when you least expect them to. Emma was thinking of a way to always change her relationship status in the future because her Facebook profile would always have posts of how her relationships we either complicated, divorced, or bad. When Emma knew she was going to dislike her future husband, Jordan Jones Junior, she made a risky move to call him, and she made sure they would never ever meet. When she refreshed her Facebook account, he was gone. The authors are trying to show readers to think

It first is shown on page 118, when Josh tells Emma he really likes her and he mistakes her actions and tries to kiss her, and she says, “I couldn’t. You’re…Josh.” It is used again in the end when she realizes she loves him on page 342. “Josh is…Josh. And now he’s gone… This is what heartbreak feels like.” I think the authors are trying to compare how Emma feels in the beginning to what she feels in the end. I think the sentences relate to the theme of change and friendship because when before Josh loved Emma, she didn’t know or realize she loved him yet, but in the end, they both love each other. Friendship grows and changes when you can trust each

All throughout Totalitarian and Dystopian fiction, there is a common idea that future societies will have advanced technology. A few examples are the cars that exceed speeds of 200 miles per hour in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and the mind control serum in Veronica Roth’s novel Divergent. Yet, in Ayn Rand’s novella Anthem, the society is technologically primitive. This shows that science and technology will continue to advance until it will one day collapse then retrogress hundreds even thousands of years. Rand is correct in depicting the future this way.…

What does it mean when someone asks you what the theme of the story is? Well, it means that they are asking you what the central idea of the story is. One of the themes was “Every moment of every day we decide our fate.”…

Another common theme is that the main character in these stories don't really have parents. There might be a parent in the story but that parent isn't raising their kids. One major theme from this book was that the main character had a tough life and had a rough background. Despite this, he ended up being alright. The book appealed to me more in an emotional way than a logical way.…

As we all know, the theme of a story is the lesson that is being taught throughout the novel. But a theme can also be the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, or a person's thoughts. All stories have a theme, but they may not always be directly stated. This requires readers to dig deep down into the text and analyze the lessons that they have acquired through the book. Between the two excerpts, "Angelas Ashes" and "The Street", there is common theme that perseverance is important when times get tough in life.…

The theme of a story is an idea the author wishes to convey to the readers. It can be expressed directly in the work or revealed through the details of the story, such as plot, characters, and setting. In John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, one of the most important themes is dreams. The harsh truth that the American Dream-the idea that anyone can achieve goals through hard work and personal sacrifice is only granted to few, is represented in the book. The characters in the novel all dream of a better life, but are unable to achieve it due to various obstacles.…

In the stories Romeo And Juliet and Flowers For Algernon, one thing I struggled to do was find a common theme. It took me almost an hour, but after close examination I realized one huge common theme I seemed to be blatantly ignoring. That theme was that relationships with others, both with humans and animals, are bound to end. There is many different ways the authors showed these themes in their story, but the ways I will be focusing on is through foreshadowing in the storyline, stereotyping and generalization from both the authors and characters, and the conflict that the characters in the story face throughout their lives.…
