As we become adults we have various of responsibilities that include deadlines that we have obligation to fulfil at certain time. Eventually we get married and start a family which comes along with addition responsibilities that require more attention, energy, or concern on which is most and truly important. In order to understand the theme of the story, the narrator evaluate his friend Gabe priorities and compares his friend focus to know what is most important and needed attention first. The portray of dynamic character through the visitation of his fellow friend Gabe. By giving spotlight of them drinking as well as smoking weed on the porch reveals the source of the unwanted guests when he notices the police car cruise through his neighborhood. This is expressed in lines where the narrator notices the amount of carelessness shown by his friend. The narrator mentions “I don’t think anything wrong with marijuana, and I like to smoking it the same as I always have”, illustrates the narrator concerns in getting into trouble with the police. For instance, the narrator feels cautious about smoking the joint because he has other things that he considers to hold more importance’s. A case in point the police car that drove by the porch observing suspiciously at them. Gabe appear to show lack of concern as he lights his joint because he doesn’t take in account how his actions affect others around him. In fact, he puts his friend in dangerous predicament if they were to get arrested, Gabe would not only be distruting his life but others around him because he chooses to show less concern on certain responsibilities. Before the leaving the narrator porch, he concerning says “You guys better look around to see if the police are waiting for you to pull away…Gabe just shrungs off my worrys”, illustrate Gabe’s decision to chooses to remained unaware of his surrounding and others instead of him focusing on getting his priorities straighten so they can be pointed in the right direction again so he can start making progress towards other matter as the mask. We all go through different phases in our lives, and some aren’t quite on the path we meant to be on. Gabe fails to not recognize his own responsibilities instead on getting his priorities straight so you can move back into his house with his family. One of his priorities that fails to consider is fixing his relationship with wife if he wants start to changes towards his current living condition. When we don’t have your priorities in order, it’s easy to go off the rails, and while it’s certainly possible to get back on track, we must first have to be aware of the problem. He displays more motivation effort to pleading with the narrator in coming along with him not acknowledging his plans tomorrow morning.
