Firstly, the first theme that gives us viewers an understanding of human nature is overcoming obstacles. The film ‘The Blind Side’ incorporates overcoming obstacles in the main character, Michael Oher. Michael is an African American boy who has had a rough childhood and has been exhibited to the community, Hurt Village’s, exposure of violence and in result leaves him poorly educated, living in an unstable home due to the fact that he has a substance abusing mother. Michael faces many challenges throughout the film, a couple being that he has low self-esteem, no confidence, is poor, barely educated and has nowhere to live after he is thrown out by the people he has been residing with. It is evident that Michael lacks proper education after he enters the classroom of Wingate Christian School. Throughout the film, close-up shots, mid shots, long shots and full shots are used to outline Michael’s struggles and how he manages to overcome his obstacles. When Michael enters the classroom, the camera angle is a close-up shot of Michael’s face which clearly displays that he is vulnerable, and intimidated by the amount of white children in the room. “I look and I see white everywhere.
