Everyone has their ups and downs and Mrs. Jones even admitted to her doing the wrong things when she was young. She tells the boy of her childhood in the quote “I were young once and I wanted things I could not get.” (Langston 3). She starts to tell him so he doesn’t have to feel alone. She goes on to say that she has done things that she will not speak on. That goes to show that she is guilty of things too. Instead of taking him to the police she tries to steer him the right direction again. As it says in the passage “You ought to be my son. I would teach you right from wrong. Least I can do right now is to wash your face. Are you hungry?” (Langston 2), she did what she did to change his path and to better him as a person. With her doing all of what she did it makes the theme not to judge people, for people don't know others situation or circumstances, the best thing to do is try to help them better themselves.
