Themes In Odette's Secret

Odette's Secret is about a young Jewish girl who is trying to hide from the Nazis by pretending she is a Christian. The time period is set in 1942 in Paris, France. The main character Odette is a Jewish girl pretending to be Christian. She is living with her mother and her father is a prisoner at war, they are hiding from the Nazis. They have to struggle life with barely any food or water. Odette and her mother are moving village to village hiding as Christians so the Nazis wouldn’t take them and send them to concentration camps.

Her father had lived with Odette and her mother forever. But now he has to go serve for the things he loves most: His family and the place that he lives. He has to fight the Nazis in the war. I think the main reason he volunteered to fight them because he wanted to protect his family. The author was in Germany and walked through a Jewish neighborhood and saw a huge plaque on a house. It had the history of the Jewish children and what life was like during during the time period. The plaque honored Jewish children who died with their families in concentration camps. The plaque showed that 11,400 children were deported to concentration camps. It showed how some Jews hid in various places like old warehouses, farms, or even faked their identity to be a Christian.
