Theme Of Truth In The Crucible

In Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible show’s and defines the truth and will about someone as well as their integrity. The play bases itself off of witchcraft and the severe punishment if found witchcrafting. It starts of with Mr. Parris, finding Abigail and the girls dancing in the forest. Through Mr. Parris’s eyes it was a dead end for him and the girls being that he was very much involved with the church also the community and it would have a great effect if the community finds out about what the girls were doing. To make everything less traumatizing, Abigail convinces Parris that there was only dancing and no witchcrafting in the forest. Soon, they stumble in conflict when the little one Betty who was also involved with the “dancing” and wouldn’t wake up sense. …show more content…
Putnam’s daughter, Ruth, who was also sick in a different way, but thought to have some type of witchcrafting involved with her sickness. As the story goes on things start to un rathel, Abigail lies and tells Mr. Hale and Parris that a woman by the name Tituba was the one that forced them to do the ritual of witchcrafting. Soon after, they catch Tituba and whip her until she finally gives up and confesses to the witchcrafting by describing if it was a man or woman, how many there were, and what the devil told her to do which convinced them more that she indeed was the source of that ritual. Throughout all that another problem arises. A problem about John proctor and Abigail having an affair. A little background of Mr. Proctor: John has a wife, Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail was truly in love with John and had played her mindset thinking John had loved her as well. Abigail didn’t like Elizabeth and wanted to do anything to basically bring her out the picture and that meant to lie about her saying she has been doing witchcraft. Ironically at the end John proctor gets taken and
