Ann Landers once said “Love is friendship that has caught on fire, It settles less than perfection and makes allowances for human weakness.” In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins’,the overarching theme is teenage love. The main character is Katniss Everdeen. Katniss and Peeta both fall for each other. Peeta told Katniss that he had a crush on her on the 1st day of school. They both work together on the games. Teenage love can be complicated for some people and by the relationship that Katniss has with Gale, Rue and Peeta.
Katniss has a relationship with Gale Hawthorne during the events in the Hunger Games. Katniss had a short relationship with Gale because he wanted to leave with the district with Katniss but she said no and he snapback.

Katniss has a very good relationship with Rue because she reminds her of Prim, and buries flowers in her. Rue protects Katniss during the attack, but Katniss couldn't save her.In chapter eighteen, page two hundred thirty one it says ““Don’t go.” Rue tightens her grip on my hand. “Course not. Staying right here” I say. I move in closer to her,pulling her head onto my lap. I gently brush the dark,thick hair back behind her ear.“Sing,” she says, but I barely catch the word”. Rue does not want Katniss to leave. She wants Katniss to sing a song, but she doesn't know any song. In chapter eighteen page two hundred-thirty three it says “I can’t stop looking at Rue, smaller than ever, a baby animal curled up in a nest of netting. I can’t bring myself to leave her like this. Past harm, but seeming utterly defenseless”. Katniss sees Rue laying down like a baby animal curled up in a nest. In chapter eighteen page two hundred-thirty four it says A few steps into the woods grows a bank of wildflowers. Perhaps they are really weeds of some sort, but they have blossoms in beautiful shades of violet and yellow and white. I gather up an armful and come back to Rue’s side. Slowly, one stem at a time, I decorate her body with flowers. Covering the ugly wound. Wreathing her face. Weaving her hair with bright colors”. They both know each other since the 1st day of school. She pretends to be in love with Peeta in order to please the sponsors. Katniss didn't notice Peeta at the time. Peeta remembers what Katniss wore on the first day of school. Her love for Peeta is complicated for him because she didn't talk to him for a long time and she starts to fall in love with him. She never talked to him since then and now that he's been elected. In chapter two page twenty-six it says “ Peeta Mellark! Oh, no, I think. Not him. Because I recognize this name, although I have never spoken directly to its owner. Peeta Mellark”. Katniss hasn't talked to Peeta but she recognizes his name. She met Peeta back then on the first day of school. In chapter nine page one hundred thirty one it explains that Caesar Flickerman told Peeta that’s who’s his crush, Peeta said that he know her for a long time, and she came here with him. Peeta tells Caesar that his crush is right here with him in this interview and came her with him. In chapter twenty-two page two hundred ninety-four it says “This is the first kiss that we’re both fully aware of. Neither of us hobbled by sickness or pain or simply unconscious. Our lips neither burning with fever or icy cold. This is the first kiss where I actually feel stirring inside my chest. Warm and curious. This is the first kiss that makes me want another”.
