In Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, the author incorporates objects as symbols that helps the reader better understand Kathy’s life. Throughout the book there are many symbols that represent Kathy and her friends. The Judy Bridgewater tape and Hailsham show their feelings and thoughts towards things.. When trouble comes in her way she finds ways around. In Never Let Me Go, theses symbols play a big role in the novel.

Hailsham is the school where Kathy, Ruth and Tommy are educated. They later learn how they’re clones and their job is to become donors and carers. As everyone grows older they later realize that hailsham is a place where they are protected and nurturned to be accepted towards organ-donor purpose. Kathy later learns that hailsham is closing, Kathy and Tommy gets informed by madame that hailsham was a social experiment for more human clones. Kathy realizes that she will be losing her connection with some friends. After Ruth and Tommy’s death, she realizes that her bond with her friends was a real powerful friendship. “So I reached forward and put a hand on his arm. Afterwards, the others thought he’d meant to do it, but I was pretty sure it was unintentional. His arms were still flailing about, and he wasn’t to know I was about to put out my hand. Anyway, as he threw up his arm, he knocked my hand aside and hit the side of my face.”(11) During Tommy’s first days at hailsham, “wild furies” were viewed by people as part of his immature state. Tommy isn’t just mad that he made a fool out of himself but that he is mad by the constraints of the school. He does not understand why Hailsham is such a hard place for him to live and study.
