Life is living in a world of the unknown, filled with secrets, and never knowing what may happen along the way. The word “suspense” is a feeling of being anxious or scared, of having the lingering question of “what is next?” The film, The Village, is about a town of people living in the 1800’s, while in reality the year is 2004. Noah is put into the quiet room because he stabs Lucius. Ivy shows Noah what the quiet room is and you can tell by his physical and facial expressions, that he does not like it. While being in the quiet room, Noah sits in a chair and is rocking back and forth, holding himself in a ball. It is obvious he is not happy in there. This foreshadows the possibility of him escaping the quiet room because of his feelings towards it. An example of a flashback is when Ivy’s dad brings her to an old shed at the edge of the village. He tells her, “Try not to scream.” However, before the door opens, the scene changes to Ivy running in the woods heading to the other towns in search for medicine. This flashback causes the audience to question what the characters see in the shed and if they will see it themselves. The audience wants more answers but the suspense keeps them

Reflection Paper on The Village (2004) In the film, The Village, a primitive society of people is influenced by the legends told by the elders, resulting in their containment within the boundaries of the village. They are held there by their belief in the existence of the creatures said to live just beyond the village in the surrounding woods. This belief system follows many of the claims made by Durkheim, including his views on the presence and power of the supernatural or divine. The Village demonstrates that a community that holds the same beliefs and respect for those beliefs may maintain social stability, though the foundation of their system may be false.…
