Star-Crossed Lovers Idea of Love
Romeo and Juliet commit suicide because they are teenagers obsessed with the idea of being in love. Romeo is the only son of the Montague’s household, and Juliet is the only daughter of the rival household the Capulet’s. Having the feud between both households means the teenagers love is forbidden, which influences them to want/rebel against their parent’s wishes, decide to marry each other and later commit suicide. Before Romeo and Juliet met, Romeo was lovesick over another teenage girl named Rosaline. Rosaline was Romeos love interest before he had met Juliet, Romeo tried to charm Rosaline and she ended up rejecting him.That is why Romeo is heartbroken in the beginning of the play/film. Capulet’s Orchard. Romeo decides to climb up under her balcony, because he must see her again. Romeo is starting to fall in love so vastly that when Juliet speaks Romeo says, “She speaks: O, speak again, bright angel! for thou art As glorious to this night, being o'er my head As is a winged messenger of heaven Unto the white-upturned wondering eyes Of mortals that fall back to gaze on him When he bestrides the lazy-pacing clouds And sails upon the bosom of the air.”(SCENE II. Capulet's orchard.) That shows how Romeo is starting to obsess over this idea of love. Juliet also shows her side of this in Scene II. Capulet's orchard. When the Nurse brings the bad news of Tybalt being killed by Romeo, and Romeo being banished from Verona. When the Nurse says, “There's no trust, No faith, no honesty in men; all perjured, All forsworn, all naught, all dissemblers. Ah, where's my man? give me some aqua vitae: These griefs, these woes, these sorrows make me old. Shame come to Romeo!” (Scene II. Capulet's orchard.) and Juliet replies, “Blister'd be thy tongue For such a wish! he was not born to shame: Upon his brow shame is ashamed to sit; For 'tis a throne where honour may be crown'd Sole monarch of the universal earth. Over the rejection Romeo was brokenhearted and shows how he is simply a teenager who had a petty crush. Juliet is a young girl in her early teens who grew up very proper, at this time in history girls such as Juliet, rarely had a moment to themselves or away from their families. So when Juliet met Romeo, Romeo was giving attention that she had never had before hand and thought what was occurring was love. Romeo and Juliet only knew one another from a time span of about five days and were already trying to get married. Showing how Romeo could move on so quickly after being “heartbroken” over Rosaline shows how he always needs affection and wasn’t really in love with Rosaline. Juliet experiencing feelings she had never had for the first time, and how they rushed into marriage while only knowing one another for around five days, both show how they are too young to really experience what love
