in the novel the society drives really fast down streets and even try to run over animals or even human beings to have fun. Since driving really fast seems to make people happy, the "government" made it the law that you must drive super fast and are not allowed to go at a normal speed like we do in real life
Since the entertainment in the novels causes the theme of depression, you can notice as you read that everyone in the society is very bland. No one in the society talks to each other so you are left with an expressionless society where their is no individuality. since the society has no skills that you do and all the jobs that you have in this society tell you exactly what to do so no one is different which causes everyone to be expressionless since they all do the same thing and their is no difference in their world.
So as you can see, the quote by Scott Westerfield saying “What happens when perfection isn't good enough?" makes the theme of depression and dissatisfaction pop out in fahrenheit 451. first you can see it with the amount of suicides that happen during the society, then you can see it by how fast they drive their cars, and finally you can see it by how expressionless everyone is in this
