In Act II of The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Proctor is willing to sacrifice his reputation to do what is right. He shows this by testifying in the court in order to save his wife and all the wrongfully accused people. He will tell Elizabeth that Abigail is lying and that the girls did summon the devil the night of the incident. Proctor knows that this can and will prove the girl's guilty.If John Proctor tells the truth about the witchcraft abigail will tell everyone about their affair. Proctor knows that by coming forth with the truth, he himself could face serious consequences. Since he did not expose the truth to begin with, he can face major punishments for not sharing his evidence. If he had told earlier he could have avoided this
