Macbeth is known as a noble soldier. He was adored by the people and especially by the king. The play began with Macbeth and his dear friend, Banquo, finishing the vengeance of a man they knew was a traitor. Macbeth began to realize Banquo’s plan to expose this newly found information, and in a plan to revenge him, Macbeth sets up the murder of Banquo. Macbeth hired and sent out the three murderers to kill Banquo and his son on their way to Macbeth’s banquet. In the words of Joan Hartwig, “Others have suggested that Macbeth tries to persuade the murderers to hate Banquo so that he will not solely responsible for Banquo’s murder” (Hartwig 39). Macbeth, overpowered by guilt, could not let the murder of Banquo rely mainly on himself. As the murderers started to attack Banquo 's son, Fleance, he ran away. While Fleance ran for this life, Banquo cried, “O, treachery! Fly, good Fleance, fly, fly, fly! thou mayst revenge. I slave!”(3.3.18-19). When the murderers return to Macbeth, blood was shown on one of their faces. The murder of Banquo would result in noble soldiers revenging Macbeth. Because of greed taking over Macbeth’s life, blood was shed and revenge had been placed on his shoulders. When Banquo did not show up to the gathering, people began to worry, but Macbeth assured everyone that nothing was wrong. Soon thereafter, Macbeth began hallucinating a ghostly figure in the room. Lady Macbeth understood Macbeth was hallucinating because of the stress put on him from King Duncan’s murder. The witches conjured their masters and three appertaining appeared: an armed head, a bloody child, and a child crowned with a tree in his hand. The armed head warned Macbeth to watch out for Macduff, the bloody child assured Macbeth that no child born of woman would harm him, and the child crowned with a tree in his hand told Macbeth that he shall never be vanquished unless the Great Birnam Wood advances towards the hill at Dunsinane. Macbeth, underestimating the witches, still believed people were coming to kill him for what he had done. Macduff, another noble soldier, flees to England in fear of Macbeth finding and killing him. Meanwhile, while Macduff fled England, he left his family behind to fend for themselves. Macbeth, with the knowledge that he had at that moment, believed that Macduff was at his house. Macbeth sent the murderers to avenge Macduff and his family for the purpose of keeping his kingship. After the avenging was done for Macbeth, Macbeth made his way to England.. Macduff and Malcolm came together and decided that they would get revenge on Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is thought to be sick because she has been sleepwalking and hallucinating during the nights. Because of Macbeth’s absence, Lady Macbeth is placed in a doctor’s care. As Lady Macbeth started sleep walking, she began to imagine blood on her hands. She continuously washes, yet the blood does not wash off.
