He addresses the topic of Mr. Hyde being the pure one of the two. Mr. Hyde did not hide from others or feel the need to restrict himself to the opinion and rules that were forced upon him. Dr. Jekyll tried to justify his actions by explaining how he wanted to be respected and praised by others. This sudden urge to want more drew him to put himself in the position that he was in.
