The entire story takes place with George and Hazel sitting in front of the TV. The government uses television as a way of enforcing its laws. When Harrison was on the loose, the government broadcasted warnings about him, describing what he looked like and how dangerous he was. It was explained how he was dangerous and different from everyone in the world and could cause intimidation to those watching, they are so brainwashed by what the government is telling them, they do not see the beauty in how being unique is really what is best for society. When Harrison finally makes it onto the television, he puts on a good show, ripping off many people’s handicaps to try and show how the government is truly hurting them. George and Hazel recognize Harrison as their son that they had lost years ago, they seemed pretty happy to see him. They watched him as he danced with a blindingly beautiful ballerina, until the Handicap General shoots and kills them both for not being in their handicaps. The live execution is an effective way of showing viewers what will happen to those who disobey the law.
