In A Thousand Splendid Suns Hosseini exemplifies many different types of realism through parenting styles, he expertly did because most of us can relate to having diverse parents. In the novel, Laila’s father, Babi is characterized as an indulgent parent. This is made clear when he says, “I know you’re still young, but I want you to understand and learn this now,” he said. “Marriage can wait, education cannot.” This clearly explains the motives of Babi trying to have a positive influence on Laila’s life. Another type of parenting style in the novel was neglect, this was exemplified by the character of Laila’s mother, Fariba.
