Racism is the belief that members of a race contain certain characteristics specific to the race, one race is superior to another. Unfortunately, in this day in time we still are battling the issue of racism periodically. In the movie Remember the Titans racism in the town leads to a struggle with becoming a real football team. Remember the Titans is a movie of courage and strength. The team has to overcome the challenges to becoming an interracial team, in hopes of becoming the winning team.
Racism and football in a southern community is the storyline of Remember the Titans. Back in Virginia of 1971 the desegregation among schools was taken place. The school in which this movie takes place is T.C.Williams High. All summer parents and students

The players and Coach’s must learn not to do what is best for him or what makes himself look good, but to do what is best for the team. At camp Gerry Bertier (white linebacker) confront Julius Campbell () for his players (black players) not blocking for Ray. Gerry goes on to say that Julius needs to start acting like a team player and not focus on just himself. Coach Boone see’s the segregation still among his team so he decides to take the players for an early 3am morning run to the field of Gettysburg. Boone states that they can take a lesson from the dead, they need to stop fighting the same fight and become one. Towards the end of the film putting pride aside is shown again when Yoast is up for the hall of fame and all he has to do is throw the championship game. Coach Yoast fights internal with what do to but as the game progresses and he sees his players defeated and discourage. He steps up to the plate, fighting back, running the plays to put his team above himself. By everyone putting aside their pride the team is able to unite and win the state title followed by be ranked number two in the …show more content…
The first sense of a team comes when the camp bus is pulling back into the school and all the boys are laughing and cutting up. Soon after the players call a meeting to discuss what has happened to the team, the team has been slacking and barely won the first two games. After the slacking of the first couple of games the team bands together, they start warming up differently to get more pepped for the game with singing and dancing. The energy continues and they go on to compete for the state title. Unfortunately in a car accident Gerry in paralysis. This event gathers the team together and pushes them to win states for Gerry.
