Theme Of Race In Uncle Tom's Cabin

Race in Accordance to Uncle Tom’s Cabin Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a book that shows many different types of themes throughout. There isn’t a theme that was more complex and predominant than that of race in this book. Stowe wrote this in a time where slavery was at its peak in the Southern states of the country. Also, the people in the Northern states were trying to show the courtesy of abolition during this book. Although the people of the North wanted to push abolition, Uncle Tom’s Cabin points out that they were very hypocritical. They wanted to see slavery exiled, but they didn’t want to deal with the black people. Uncle Tom’s Cabin shows that the majority of people in the country, no matter where they lived, were prejudice and showed some type of racism towards African American slaves. Like what was said in the introduction, almost everyone articulated that blacks are the inferior race. Even though Tom had some owners who were very nice to him, they even showed that the slaves were the inferior race. Miss Ophelia, who was from a Northern state, still prejudiced towards the slaves as she didn’t understand how St. Clare was so nice to them and gave them so much freedom. With happenings like these where it seems that everyone is against someone or one group of people, there are always a few exceptions to “normal.” In Uncle Tom’s Cabin, these exceptions were Eva and George. It could be the fact that they were raised in establishments where black slaves were treated very fairly. If this is the case I don’t understand how anyone could go against people that they have been with and suffered so much with in the case of Quimbo and Sambo. It wasn’t just the southern, white plantation owners who showed racism towards African Americans, it was the whole country including fellow black
