In the book Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card, power is shown through manipulation, control and authority. Frequently the greed for power seems to always increase, along with that is abusing that power. To establish power, control over a group is necessary, manipulation is often the first option to obtain it. Manipulation is the greatest attribute for any leader of a group, the world in “Ender’s Game” is controlled by three main groups, the strategos, polemarchs, and the IF. The IF(International Fleet) manipulates Ender every day of his life. For Example, ever since he was a child, Peter dictated him, “Not a joke, a game. I can make you guys believe anything. First of all, the two administrators of the battle school plan to make Ender’s life decisions limited, “ Isolate him enough that he remains creative – otherwise he’ll adopt the system here and we’ll lose him. At the same time, we need to make sure he keeps a strong ability to lead.”(20). Ender’s life is controlled and monitored at battle school, not much different from his life at home, the expect Ender to go against the system and create new ways to succeed in the battle room. Also, they make Ender the teacher’s pet, so he deals with conflicts at each moment.Another important moment was when, Dink Meeker, Ender’s toon leader, contradicts the real enemy, “Because as long as people are afraid of the buggers, the IF can stay in power, and as long as the IF is in power, certain countries can keep their hegemony.”(79). The IF strives to be in control, while the buggers remain alive they are the only protection for mankind. If the buggers never attacked again, The IF would be in danger of losing its authority, hence the reason for Ender to destroy the buggers for good. In conclusion, Ender comes to realization about who controls his life, “Welcome to the human race. Nobody controls his own life, Ender.
