Hamlet’s motivation is driven on the idea of revenge. After the three soldiers tell Hamlet about seeing a ghost, Hamlet goes to see this ghost. The ghost takes the form of King Hamlet, who is Hamlet’s father and tells him that Claudius had poisoned him and was the reason he died. In addition, the ghost of King Hamlet orders Hamlet to seek revenge against Claudius and to avenge him. Hamlet then devotes himself to getting revenge for his father. When we first meet Hamlet, it appears that he might have been depressed and missing his father, as stated by Claudius, “How is it that the clouds still hang on you?”, although Hamlet denies it, his mother mentions how he is indeed missing his father, “Seek for thy noble father in the dust.”. Furthermore, his depression his lead him to want to kill himself as he feels alone and that his life is pointless, “His canon 'gainst self-slaughter!”. Hamlet’s intentions quickly change as he is told by the ghost of his father that Claudius had killed him. Hamlet is no longer depressed or lonely, but is enraged at his …show more content…
As Claudius leaves in anger after witnessing the actor pour poison into the ear of the other actor, Hamlet knows that Claudius had indeed killed his father. When Hamlet sees Claudius praying, he decides not to kill him for the reason of that Claudius would have been sent to heaven since he was playing. This is further evidence that Hamlet has not made up his mind on wheter or not he should kill Claudius. However, when he goes to meet his mother and believes that Claudius is hidden behind the curtains, he stabs him. Although, the man behind the curtains was Porilneus, nonetheless it is a clear indication that Hamlet has finally made up his mind to kill Claudius and he indeed does that at the end of the
