Theme Of Mastery In The Call Of The Wild

Not only was Buck taken from his leisurely life in california and thrown into the Yukon as a sled dog, but he is also forced to fight for survival everyday of it. The Call of the Wild by Jack London. In the fictional story The Call Of The Wild by Jack London, Buck is a normal dog living a laid back life with his master Judge Miller when a greedy gardner kidnaps him and sells him to a gold miner in the Yukon as a sled dog. Bucks only hope for survival is to have faith in his masters and embrace the call of the wild. Struggle for mastery - The theme of struggle for mastery is heavily used in the story the Call of the Wild.

When Buck is taken from his laid back life with Judge Miller ware he doesn't have to fight for mastery because he feels he already is the king of his dominance. But when Buck arrives in the Yukon and meets the man in the red sweater he still has the mindset of being the king and the man in

Buck is fighting for mastery with thornton because the call of the wild is pulling him to the woods and the only thing keeping him sane is Thornton. “ In spite of his great love he bore thornton which seemed to bespeak the soft, civilizing influence, the strain of the primitive, which the northland had aroused in him he remained alive and active.” (London 76). In the end Buck shows he is fit to be the master when Thornton dies Buck has no more masters, so he answers the Call Of the Wild and heads into a wolf pack and becomes the leader of it.

Concluding the call of the wild book Buck endures many tasks/changes and throughout all of those his will to be the best or master or ruler never changes. Even through buck's struggle for mastery with the man in the red sweater, the 3 three fights with the mail sled dogs and john thornton's love buck still wanted and proceeded to be the king. Overall i recommend this book to whoever wants a thriller/action book i rate the call of the wild 5
