In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, an outburst by John Proctor reveals that he is frustrated with himself because of his prior involvement in adultery, and that he is angry that he and Danforth have allowed the town to be filled with sin and fear. A girl named Abigail Williams, who is adept in the art of manipulation, is the main source of the unjust acts in court and sin in the town. Before being involved in court she is caught dancing in the forest with a few other girls. Dancing, or having fun of any kind is forbidden in the Puritanical religion. After this incident two of the girls present, Ruth Putnam and Betty Parris, fell ill. As a result, the minister of the town calls in a witchcraft professional named Reverend Hale, to asses the situation
