Theme Of Macbeth's Ambition

The tragedy of Macbeth has a major theme connected to great ambition. We can see this theme throughout every act. Macbeth is a play where the desire to be successful is very significant to most of the characters. In the play the weird sisters prophesied that both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth will try to fulfill their ambitions. Though the sisters never made Macbeth or Lady Macbeth do anything in return for them. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth try their hardest to fulfill their most desirable ambitions. Lady Macbeth quoted “You want to have the greatest prize in life, but you act like a coward. Macbeth allowed his ambition to make him an assassinator and overly paranoid. Macbeth said “Stars, hide your fires! Let not light see my black and deep desires,” this quote is referring to his desire to take the throne of Scotland by any means possible, and that he will complete his ambition. After Lady Macbeth completes her ambition to kill Duncan and his attendant, also having Macbeth to be king, her guilt takes over her life. Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth wanted to be great and powerful, and they wanted to put their reputation on the line in exchange of achieving their goal to be great and powerful. By mixing these two characters with others in the play, such as Banquo, Duncan, and Macduff, which they also want be great leaders, but refuse to allow ambition to come before honor, Macbeth showed how bare his ambition was by freeing himself from any sort of moral values or social moralities, ultimately letting his ambition taking over his characteristics of a person.
