Chivalry does not only represent a characters loyalty, willingness to defend others, or honorability, it also reveals quite a bit about a character’s morals. In “The Knight’s Tale” by Geoffrey Chaucer, Arcite is the most chivalrous. He is consistently respectful and honorable. In part two of this story, Arcite had the opportunity to alert the guards of Palamon’s prison escape or he could have simply killed Palamon on the spot. Either of these choices would have eliminated the competition Arcite had for Emily, and assured Arcite as a partisan of Theseus. Nonetheless, Arcite wanted to settle the strife between himself and Palamon, who was accusing him of betraying the Code of Chivalry, so he promised to “‘bring arms and harness for [them] both;
