Both characters, Curley’s wife and Crooks interact differently. Curley’s wife was known for trouble . She was rude to almost everyone in the ranch. She also acts flirty with all the guys because that’s how she will get attention.I believe she’s rude to them because she didn’t have no one she can admire and talk to . She is old enough to process things but still being lonely might affect her and no one really cares for her so she thinks she can do anything and no one will say or do anything. She states “"Seems like they ain't none of them cares how I gotta live” (Steinbeck.00). On the other hand Crooks interacts with the people differently. He has been through a lot . Whenever someone tells him anything he will accept and not talk back or anything . When Curley’s says the rude comment to him he just stays calm and he doesn’t snap back at her . It did hurt him for what she said. Crooks responds and acts a certain way after that harsh statement. All he responded with is him saying “Yes ma’am”

A time George felt isolated in the book was, obviously, when Lennie died. Lennie and George had such a tight relationship that when George was about to kill Lennie out of mercy, his hand was shaking so violently he barely even hold the gun.…

This quote shows that Crooks is lonely to the point where he is on the verge of going mad and it is obvious that he would do anything in his power to escape the state of miserableness that he is in, contributing to the theme of loneliness. As the chapter continues, Lennie describes the dream farm that him, George, and Candy are going to eventually have. At first, Crooks doubts that it will ever happen and then out of the blue, he changes thought. He claims, “...If you guys would want a hand to work for nothing - just his keep, why I’d come an’ lend a hand” (Steinbeck 76). This quote shows that Crooks is willing to contradict his own opinion to escape loneliness even though the dream is unrealistic and will never happen which contributes to the theme of…

John Steinbeck expressed his life through his novels, novellas and poems. For instance, many of Steinbeck’s literary works take place in an area similar to his own home, Salinas Valley, California, an area full of farms, ranches, and orchards (Bloom). Also, California was an area known for attracting farm hands and migrant workers during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl eras because the soil was more nutrient-rich due to its short history of farming (Bloom). This setting transferred over to several of Steinbeck’s works including Of Mice and Men (1937), which is actually set in Salinas Valley. Another example of Steinbeck writing his life into his works is that, as a writer, Steinbeck often struggled financially and was forced to work outside…
