Leadership may be a common term that's simple to explain, however will be troublesome to implement. Leaders can be found everywher as well as our families, among friends, at work or in the community. To be a decent leader, one must possess certain characteristics. Some Examples include being focused, positive, and humble. One can become a decent leader by practicing these characteristics. At 2:08:55, Caesar’s breathing makes Maurice look at his womb and he notices that he is worse off than he thought. Maurice takes a big sigh and the music turns into a sad piece and you hear Maurice starts to panic and breathe harder. At 2:09:13, Caesar takes Maurice hand and says, “Don’t worry, you are all home now. Apes are strong with or without me”. His words were slow and raspy as he ached with pain. It shows that he knew his time as a leader had come to an end. At 2:11:31, after Maurice tells him about caring for his son the music goes from soft to intense and powerful as he’s looking out at the other apes. This also shows that he knew that the apes would be okay. They may have missed him, but he knew they would be fine without him. At 206:49, while they are traveling, Caesar is in the front on the horse leading the way the whole time. At 2:08:25, the director has Maurice speak when throughout the whole movie he doesn’t say actual words he just uses hand signals and sounds. Many film elements were used to help communicate the directors message to the view, however several were very important in the scene. These elements include camera angles, sound, lighting, symbolism, and editing. Reeves uses camera angles to show leadership by going from high to low angles while Caesar and Maurice were talking. He did this to show that Maurice was talking to his leader. The uses of sound were used when Maurice looks at Caesar’s womb, looks at the other apes, and when the apes are traveling. The director uses symbolism and lighting to show that Caesar symbolized Moses. The director had the light shining on his face like Moses when he went to Mount Sinai. The use of editing was another important element in the film. Reeve’s uses a fade in from the apes to Caesar showing him in front and his friends on the side of him. The director showed that he still had family with him. The concept of leadership was the theme of Matt Reeves’s War for the Planet of the Apes because Caesar did a lot to protect the apes and keep them safe.
