With the force of the Nazis’ unjust actions, Eliezer begins to lose his religion values because of fear. With his dad at the edge of dying he feels like all hope is lost and he begins to think in ways he shouldn't.The Blockälteste tries giving Eliezer advice and states “Don’t forget that you’re in a concentration camp. In this place, it is every man for himself and you cannot think of others.” (107). This was a terrible thing for someone to say to him, because Eliezer is barely holding on to whatever hope he has left. His fear for god has turn into dust and has flew away as he begins to fear the Nazis more. His outlook for doing everything for his family has changed. This is shown when he thought back to what the Blockälteste told him, “He was right, not daring to admit it to myself…[but it is] Too late to save your old father...you could have two rations of bread, two rations of soup…..” (108). Him thinking that the Blockäteste was right shows that Eliezer has almost given up on his moral values. He did not want the responsibility of taking care of his father, then started thinking about the rations he would receive if his father was gone.
