The Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller, is set in a theocratic society where the Church and State are one and religion is highly practiced and very important. Moral and State laws are one and if one is to break them, it is going to become a public concern due to the sin and the status of an individual. If one’s life does not conform to God nor the established rules within the society, then it is conformed to the Devil and considered a threat to the public. This is seen in Salem, where everything and everyone belongs to either God or to the Devil.
