1.) Insanity is a tough word to define, as is the mind. No one knows a person’s thoughts that goes on inside their mind and that is why it is so difficult to say someone is insane. A definition of insanity from a medical perspective, Insanity is a mental illness of such severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct his or her affairs due to psychosis or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior. I think this is an accurate definition for the word insanity. I think that insanity is not controllable based off events that may occur to an individual that may cause this individual to “snap” in a sense. But if an individual has “chosen” to become insane I think that is controllable, it is difficult to determine

Though both Hamlet and Laertes have lost their fathers I feel Hamlet’s revenge is more justified because he lost much more with this father’s death than Laertes did. First off Hamlet’s Uncle Claudius, killed his father and then wooed Hamlet’s mother Gertrude into marrying him. This situation creates a deep sense of betrayal in Hamlet and hurts him greatly. For example the quote, “Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief, that cab denote me truly.” (1.2.85-87) the readers see how deeply Hamlet is hurt and that no forms of mourning will truly exemplify his grief. Laertes’s father may have been wrongfully kill and deserves justice but Hamlet’s father was the King of Denmark and thus after his death Hamlet was the rightful heir but the throne was stolen from him by his Uncle. An important quote to look at that illustrates the effect of this situation on Hamlet “How strange or odd some’er I bear myself (as I perchance hereafter shall think meet to put an antic disposition on)” (1.5.190-192) this is after the ghost has appeared to hamlet reveling to him his father’s death wasn’t an accident thus Hamlet decides to fake being insane. Hamlet’s tragic flaw his is inability to take revenge for his father’s death. Throughout the play we see Hamlet’s internal struggle of action vs. inaction. Hamlet had many opportunities to take his revenge but was unable to act for reason such as his soul, would this action send him to hell? For example “now I might I do it now he is a-praying, and now I’ll do it… why, this is hire and salary, not revenge… to take him in the purging of his soul, when he is fit and seasoned for his passage? No. up sword, and know thou a more horrid hent.” (3.3.79-92) this quotes illustrates Hamlet’s inaction to take his revenge justifying his inaction because he wants to kill Claudius when he is sinning to send him to hell. Hamlet is a “tragic hero” and is plagued by his inaction but the play illustrates that inaction and action only lead to death.
5.) I feel the two major examples where appearance vs reality apply greatly is the media and religion. Religion reaches to every corner of this earth nearly all 7 billion people are effected by religion but most religions rely on a supernatural being or theme that is nor logical or scientifically supported.
