Do not strike the beast for he will strike out of fear. This short story “The Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell is used to bring out the theme of hunting. And how Rainsford feels when he is hunted by General Zaroff. Irony is shown through Rainsford the first night he has to stay in the jungle, has to hide from Zaroff, and kills General Zaroff. Rainsford originally believes that animals don’t feel fear but after he is hunted his opinions change. The theme of hunting is revealed through fear and the three literary terms known as personification, zoomorphism, and a metaphor.
The author reveals the theme of hunting through the use of personification by giving Rainsford’s sleepless night living attributes. This is evident because
