This largely comes to play near the end of the novel when Kat and her team are organizing a scheme to retrieve Arturo's paintings. “‘Tell me, Mr. . . . Worthington,’ Hale said, pointing at a very nice Manet, ‘what kind of assurance do I have that my painting wouldn’t be damaged in any way?’”(90) This quote comes from a section of the novel where Hale is pretending to be a rich billionaire who wants to put his family’s prized Monet on display in the Henley Museum to gain information on the Henley museums security system. This shows the theme because to Me. Worthington Hale might have been a high end client, but in actuality he was just a common con artist. Halfway through the novel a new character, Nick, is added to the plot and the team. Hale had suspicions about Nick from the very beginning, but it was not until the very end that his true identity and motive was revealed to Kat. “‘How long has your mom been leading the investigation of my dad, Nick?’ He looked down at the ground and admitted, ‘A while.’”(254) This quote is from when Kat finally realizes that Nick was the son of the interpol officer that had recently been following and investigating her father. In the novel Heist Society by Ally Carter the author is strenuously stressing that things things are always misleading. Furthermore, Carter is stressing that this concept is merely a part of life.
