The theme of the text is surving and find shelter,food,and tools.The author develops the theme by giving mood and tone that is a way of writing that gives you a certin feeling in the text.

I know this because the author says at the begging of the story divorce that is one of the mood and tones he gives us.Another way the author develops the the is by word and concepts like metphors,similes,and repation.I think that’s the theme because first of all the name of this novel is Hatchet which gives you a feeling of the woods and surving also its what the whole story is about.
