Roman Fever Friendship Quotes

In Roman Fever, two ladies Alida and Grace, were always friends, but their relationship with each other was not completely real. Many years Grace and Alida kept a huge secret that really gives the knowledge that was needed to understand them. Also, to know about their relationship they had with each other through the years, but they just are not revealing it until they start reminiscing about the past events that took place in Rome. When Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade start reminiscing about the past it shows that their friendship was not really a true friendship. Their dysfunctional friendship is based around lies, deception, and secrets that will finally be revealed during the course of the story. However, even though Grace and Alida were friends they knew very little about each other. They did grow up with each other but as they grew older they did not socialize like most friends would have. Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade made a great deal of assumptions about one another. They were more on the outside looking in and connecting the wrong pieces they felt that fitted each other the most. There are a couple examples that I found that shows what they really thought about each other. “Mrs. Ansley thought Alida Slade was disappointed; on the whole she had had a sad life. Full of failures and mistakes; Mrs. Ansley had always been rather sorry for her…” (23). Grace does not know the reason her friend acts the way she does because she does not know anything about her to judge her based on the way she acts. Alida feels that Grace is a nullity, and she also felt Grace was very old fashioned and boring do to the way Grace does things. These examples were very helpful to understand their relationship even more and show they were not expressing their feeling toward each
