Theme Of Equality In Ayn Rand's Anthem

Have you ever wondered what it is like to live in a world where we are equal? Well today you hear about a fiction book called Anthem by Ayn Rand. In the book Anthem there's a man named Equality who is different than everyone else and everyone is supposed to look and be the same. Him being different he got picked on alot in school by his teacher. Now he is a street sweeper which was not his job of choice the government picked his job for him. In the book he slowly starts to go against the government and breaks the laws. Throughout the course of the text the theme of Dystopian Characteristics has progressed and developed in many ways.

In the first chapter of the book Equality and his partner in street sweeping find a grill and under the grill is a staircase Equality decides to go into the tunnel with his partner International. When they go in it looks like a place form the unmentionable times which are the times that are happening now as we speak. When he finds the tunnel he wants to hide it from the government so just him and international know about it. Then he says “The will of the council is above all things, for it is the will of our brothers, which is holy. But if you wish it so, we shall obey you” (34). …show more content…
When he gets there he shows them the light then they yell at him for breaking laws and tell him that they already knew about the light. They chase him and he jumps out the window into the uncharted forest. Well he is th in the forest he kills a bird for food and explores. The Golden One followed him into the forest and then they meet up. They kept exploring and found a house from the unmentionable times. Then Equality said “We shall never leave this home nor let it be taken from us” (91). This means that they will live by themselves without the government.
