First of all, Linda being allowed to have limitless soma, foreshadowed her eventual death. Huxley introduced Linda eventual death in an earlier chapter by describing her looks "Fat, having lost her youth, with bad teeth, a blotched complexion and return to civilization was for her the return to Soma" (Huxley 154). Soma is like their ration for utopian people and a way of living, but also too much soma can kill them because it is a drug that help them control their emotion.
