Domestic abuse is a problem that occurs in many different countries, and with all types of people. The problem is when abuse is not seen as a problem in certain countries, along with not being addressed. Domestic abuse is very prominent in the book A Thousand Splendid Suns and is a large part of the book. The book portrays domestic abuse in Afghanistan accurately. Domestic abuse is more common in women and little girls who are forced to be married. Such as Mariam in A Thousand Splendid Suns, she was forced to marry a man half her age by her father. After this the rage sets in, and Rasheed is out for blood. He nearly beat Laila to death, because he knows he can. He will more than likely get only two years for her blood if that since he could accuse her of adultery. On the other hand on page 366 Mariam had murdered Rasheed and is now being given the highest penalty; death. In Afghanistan, this is how the law works, in favor of males.
