During one of the earlier scenes Skeeter and her friends are playing a game called Bridge when Hilly announces to them that she thinks African-Americans should have different bathrooms than whites to prevent diseases that African-American supposedly carry. Skeeter does not agree with what Hilly is saying, to prevent further conversation about it she changes the conversation. (Taylor). Skeeter does not believe in what other whites think about African-Americans. Skeeter shows us that she doesn 't worry about the color of someone 's skin to show love, kindness, and respect for them. Skeeter also takes action for what she believes and that is right. Hilly tries to pressure Skeeter into entering her initiative into the newspaper, but instead Skeeter says to put your toilets in her yard. Skeeter doing this allows us to know she will do whatever it takes to do what she thinks is right even if it means losing a very close friend. During the 1960’s it was common for women to just go to college to find a husband, which most did. Skeeter is told many times throughout the movie that she needs a man because that 's what all women need. She continues to finish school and to not listen to them. Due to the huge age gap between Scout and Skeeter dealing with discrimination is very different for both woman. Scout tends to be feisty and violent while Skeeter is quiet, but in the end gets her point across. Although Skeeter witnessed other people getting discriminated against she was able to not let people discriminating against herself get to her. Unlike Scout who faced discrimination against herself, loved ones, and African-American Tom Robinson. Because of her young age it was harder for Scout to keep her anger in like Skeeter did, causing her to lose her temper. Discrimination can be done in many ways and against a lot of different people, but Scout and Skeeter show that people really do stand up for what they strongly believe in no matter the consequence. In the end discriminating against others does not show who they are but it shows who you are as a
