Theme Of Death In Lord Of The Flies Liesel

Decent Essays
Through the death of Liesel’s brother, the bombing of Himmel Street, and Liesel’s thoughts of Max being dead, Death tries to tell the audience that everybody dies so life needs to be cherished. Death tries to use Liesel as the person he is trying to tell this to. Through Death’s actions and thoughts, Liesel becomes more of a strong character throughout the book. Also, Liesel becomes more strong and courageous because, by the end of the book, Liesel becomes more motivated to cherish her life. “Her knees entered the ground. Her moment had arrived. Still in disbelief, she started to dig. He couldn’t be dead. He couldn’t be dead. He couldn’t-” (Zusak 23) I think that this quote helps best explain Liesel’s love for her brother. Slowly, Liesel walked to her mama and papa and sat down between them.” (Zusak 537) In the book, I don’t think that Liesel was shown cherishing life at the moment that her street was bombed. I do think that in the near future, Liesel will learn to understand and try to cherish life once again. I believe that because in the beginning of the book, Liesel's brother died and she seemed to have moved on from that. I think that it will take Liesel some time to get over it, but she will eventually move past this tragedy. “Please, God, please let Max survive. Please, God, please…” (Zusak 400) In this quote, I think that it shows that Liesel really cares about what happens to Max. Also, in this quote, she is trying to pray for him. I think that Max helped her realize how to cherish life because he became a good friend of hers. In other words, I think that because Max was supposed to be in a concentration camp or dead and Liesel realizes that and was astonished by this bravery and courage to love life. Concluding, I think that Liesel has learned to cherish her life and to never let death and other things that are going on in her life to get caught up with her. Death tries to teach Liesel a lesson throughout the book. This lesson would be to never stop cherishing life and to never think about the negatives. Also, I think that if this story was to keep going, that Liesel would cherish life just as she once did in the

I choose this passage because it evidently shows the unhealthy relationship between Laila and Mammy. At the beginning of the novel it is seen that Fariba is a happy, loving mother but she suddenly changes when her sons leave for war. Although Mammy cares for her daughter she is consumed with her sons departure. Laila is a constant reminder to Mammy of her two sons, as a result Laila is abandoned. Laila is yet very caring and considerate to towards her mother, “ Laila used to sit for hours outside the door.”…

Furthermore, the three witches play upon Macbeth’s ambitions and he acts upon their prophecies. Macbeth gets told he "shalt be King hereafter" which leads him to follow a path of evil acts and to eliminate anyone who stands in his way of achieving that title. The witches’ words have the power to alter Macbeth’s kindhearted mannerism and send him on a barbaric chase to attain more and more authority. Having said that, how Macbeth perceives the witches’ words themselves, contributes to their power and this, for instance, reveals itself clearly in Act 4 of Macbeth. Here, Macbeth feels uneasy that he will lose his title as King and he therefore goes back to the witches for a second set of prophecies to put his fearful mind at rest.…
