Theme Of Commitment In Romeo And Juliet

Improved Essays
When comparing the theme of commitment in Cousin Kate and Romeo and Juliet they both have include family within each others events, but within Romeo and Juliet both families are very wealthy, then come together which would increase their wealth, whereas within Cousin Kate the narrator comes across as poor due to being a “cottage maiden”, but the Lord is wealthy like the Montagues and Capulets. This shows within Romeo and Juliet there is commitment of love rather than wanting or needing wealth. The narrator is committed to her life as a cottage maiden, and is also committed to the lord as she lost her innocence and might have been “a dove” but he “changed her like a glove” which is a simile which are also featured in parts of Romeo and Juliet.

Weddings in the twenty-first century are quite different than what would have taken place in the time of Romeo and Juliet. Marriage has changed tremendously since Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet; arranged marriage has vanished, marriage customs have changed, and how much goes into preparing a wedding. In the fifteenth century most marriages were arranged by parents or relatives not by marriage. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, Juliet’s attitude towards love and marriage changes after she talks to her mother, after she meets Romeo, and after she thinks about it. Juliet’s attitude changes after she talks with her mother about how she got married at a young age. Also, it changes when Lady Capulet starts to talk to Juliet about Paris. Also, it changes after Juliet meets Romeo because Juliet starts to fall in love with Romeo. This can be proven because the expression in her face is lovestruck when she first lays eyes on Romeo.…

Romeo and Juliet Marriage in the time of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet was very different from today’s time. In the fifteenth century, marriages were more arranged, the couple’s engagement and courting periods were shorter, and they married earlier. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet’s father decides that she should marry Paris (Act III, scene v, 150). Juliet is clearly distressed about this since she does not love Paris; she loves Romeo.…

Romeo is characterized as dramatic throughout the story, which leads him into dangerous situations. Romeo’s character is first seen after Rosaline turns him down. He comes into the scene moping and depressed. Of course, this is a completely over dramatic response to girl telling him no. So, Romeo’s original characterization includes dramatic.…

In act three scene two of William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Juliet is hopelessly in love with Romeo, because the star-crossed lovers have an effable connection, which attracts them together like magnets, and this is shown through oxymores and metaphors. After getting married to Romeo, Juliet impatiently waits for the envious sun to go down, so Romeo can come, while waiting she expresses her endless love for Romeo by passionately claiming, “Come, civil night, Thou sober-suited matron, all in black, And learn me how to lose a winning match Played for a pair of stainless maidenhoods” (3.2.10-13). In the quote, Juliet expresses the night as a metaphor, for love and intimacy, with Romeo. Juliet is excited for the night to come because…

In Conclusion, I think that Romeo is a young, inexperienced and impatient but loyal and brave boy. I think that his naivety plays a huge rule in this because love was taken as an extravagant feeling to have when it was not truly happy as the lovers can experience heartbreak and many other obstacles. It seems as if Romeo only more cautious and deliberate, his devastating ending could have been prevented (even though we have not finished the book yet). Amongst friends especially Mercutio, Romeo shows signs of his social and quick witted persona, even with his fond of verbal jousting that is mainly about sex. Lastly, Romeo is like every other male in the world who only unveils their true self to the people who they trust or who understand them.…

Mercutio knows if Tybalt duels with Romeo, Romeo will most likely lose. So Mercutio protects him by insulting Tybalt by saying “O calm, dishonourable, vile submission” then goes on to say, with a now drawn sword “Tybalt you rat catcher, will you walk” which is a question of a duel. Mercutio doing this is a great act of loyalty toward Romeo. Mercutio’s death by Tybalt adds to his heroic services to Romeo. Romeo shows his act of loyalty back to Mercutio by getting revenge on his soul, he does this by beating Tybalt and overall killing him.…

Infatuation and love are two vastly different types of affection that most people get confused between. It is likely to occur more so among a boy and a girl when they are young and inexperienced as opposed to when they’re grown and matured. Infatuation can easily be mistaken for love in many cases. In Romeo and Juliet infatuation is mistaken for love by the both of them, for what they had between them was not love due to the fact that they were not mature enough, love takes time to develop, and because it was based on physical attraction. Love deals with more than just looks.…

The effect this has on the audience is that they want to see whether Romeo is caught so overall makes the scene much more intense. Teenage love is Shakespeare's way of making Romeo and Juliet fall in love so quickly and perhaps is the reason why the play is only four days long. And also that they were being reckless because they were young and never really stopped to think about what they were doing. Friar Lawrence: "Young men's love then lies Not truly in their hearts but in their eyes."…

In the tragic play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ the writer Shakespeare uses the idea of motivation to help develop the characters’ and progress the plot. Juliet is one of the characters’ who has lots of motivation in this play. Juliet has motivation to get with Romeo, Juliet loved him and did not want to marry Paris to please her parents. Juliet’s motivation might not be good, because her love and will to be with Romeo was so strong she was willing to make everyone think she was dead.
