The key aspect discussed in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby was not derived from the mystery solved, but established by the lessons learned in the process. One key aspect that is justified in the unraveling of the mystery is that there are consequences when you act upon your assumptions. Even though some may say assuming is a survival instinct and has little significance to the story as a whole, many deaths could have been avoided if people did not act on their assumptions. Later on in the novel, Gatsby and Daisy are having an open affair. Gatsby needs Daisy to tell Tom that she never loved him, so they can go back to the way they used to be. However, Daisy will not be able to do this because she is too shallow for the dream that Gatsby wants her to fulfill. There is color imagery throughtout the novel, a few include: yellow representing the corruption of materialism, blue possibly representing the illusion of reality, and green representing the American dream or Gatsby’s motive (yellow car is upholstered in green). When Tom finds out that a "big yellow car" (147), killed her he makes the connection that it was Gatsby’s. Distressed and outraged he foolishly tells hysterical Mr.Wilson it was Gatsby’s car. Mr.Wilson knowing about his wife’s affair, makes the assumption that Jay Gatsby was his wife’s lover, and in his distraught state he goes to Gatsby’s house shoots him and then shoots himself. Only thee servants, Nick and Owl eyes attend the funeral.Tom and Daisy leave and tell nobody where they have gone, and none of Gatsby’s “friends” show up because they don’t want to be associated with the murder. Reporters disclose that Gatsby was Mrs.Wilson’s lover and killer, because Daisy will not admit she was the one driving and Tom will not admit that he was the lover.
