Kanye has been known to respond with outrageous quotes, for example, one thing he has said that demonstrates his cockiness is the following, “I am the number one human being in music. That means any person that’s living or breathing is number two”. In this quote, he has just made thousands of enemies, that is everyone other than him in the music business. No one would want to be called number two for trying their hardest to be successful. This is similar to Oedipus in the sense that he says “Ban him from your homes, every one of you, for he is our pollution, as the Pythian god has just revealed to me.” Oedipus is essentially burning bridges and creating enemies because he is soon to be revealed as the killer, but still has punishments placed upon him because he arrogantly assign them without knowing who the killer was. In this section of the play, Oedipus shows his arrogance in believing that he is above the law of the land, and could possibly escape his fate, which leads to his tragic downfall.
In the text, Oedipus consults his dying townspeople when they come to him with the following- “For I well know that you are ill, and yet, sick as you are, there is not one of you whose illness equals mine” (Lines 59-71). This is important because it starts off the play showing the audience Oedipus’ arrogant character. These lines disguise themselves as Oedipus caring for his subjects, while he is trying to show that
