The theme of the play, Antigone, is to stand up for what you believe is right, no matter the consequences. This theme is demonstrated throughout the play and is easily identified. Although people could argue that there are clearly other possible themes as well, this one stuck out the most to me and left the biggest impression on me after reading. I believe that this theme is still relevant today and applies to our modern readers, even though it was written in the ancient times. It inspires students and adults alike to stand up for your beliefs and not waver under the peer pressure of your everyday surrounding and the pressure of society.
