Negative emotions stop us from thinking and behaving rationally and seeing situations in their true perspective. When this occurs, we tend to see only we want to see and remember only what we want to remember. This only prolongs the anger or grief and prevents us from enjoying life. The longer this goes on, the more entrenched the problem becomes. Dealing with negative emotions inappropriately can also be harmful - for example, expressing anger with violence.

Green strikes the eye in such a way as to require no adjustment whatever and is, therefore, restful. Being in the centre of the spectrum, it is the color of balance - a more important concept than many people realize. When the world about us contains plenty of green, this indicates the presence of water, and little danger of famine, so we are reassured by green, on a primitive level. Negatively, it can indicate stagnation and, incorrectly used, will be perceived as being too bland. Green stands as the most prominent color Fitzgerald employs in The Great Gatsby which mostly takes in the negative connotation of different emotions like envy, boredom, stagnation, blandness, and enervation. Lisa Tessman’s article describes the three problematic traits towards political resistance: anger, courage, and loyalty. With anger, Tessman thinks that political resisters need to “train” or control their anger carefully; otherwise, it could lead to errors where people can become angry at the wrong target or use their anger to an excessive degree (Tessman, 120). When people attack the wrong target, it makes it harder for officials to find the oppressors who did the deeds. For example, if African Americans attack the Whites for causing injustices of slavery, the question would determine which makes us angry: the Whites in general or the Whites’ unjust actions. The wrong target is to attack the people rather than the action.…

Through negative imagery and diction, Fitzgerald uses the Green Light to symbolize how close Gatsby is to his American Dream and how far away it is. A quote to support the topic sentence is, “I thought of Gatsby’s wonder when he first picked out The Green Light, he had come a long way to this blue lawn, and his dream must’ve seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it,” (Fitzgerald, 180). The Green Light symbolizes Daisy. This quote relates to the topic sentence because it shows when The Green Light was close he was close to his American Dream but when it was far away he wasn’t close to his American Dream. Fitzgerald is trying to show that how close Gatsby was to his dream but he wasn’t actually even that close to it.…

While the human body preserves a vast array of emotions, two emotions maintain the power to dominate and elicit formidable responses – anger and anxiety. According to Miller, balm for anger exposes a defusing anger approach: “One way of defusing anger is to seize on and challenge the thoughts that trigger the surges of anger… and the subsequent reappraisals that fan the flames” (Goleman, 2005, p. 62). Obliging to defuse anger, this approach sanctions an individual to grasp and acknowledge the instigator of their anger, prior to acting on the emotions. When an individual acts on their anger, rather than defusing this emotion, they construct irrational decisions, which could trigger regret. It is in anger that individuals commit crimes, embrace…
