The thematic unit I created is aimed towards enhancing the learning of a first grade classroom. This first grade classroom consists of twenty-five students. The students will be focusing on the theme of winter over the next couple of months, which is why I chose to create a unit on winter animals and their hibernation process. I thought this would be a fun unit to incorporate in the classroom. The students in this classroom have been working on their writing skills as well as their reading skills. Students will learn facts about hibernation through research, in which they will be required to analyze the information. After learning the facts, the students will be required to understand them in order to connect them to other facts. The students will have to put all of the facts together to present them in a different way. The students will be required to take what they have learned and take it to the next level as they create their digital story. The students will have to make sense of and be able to use the concept of hibernation to complete the project. It requires the students to use their critical thinking skills as well. By incorporating this thematic unit in the classroom, students will be able to answer a variety of questions. Students will be able to answer what they already know by activating their prior knowledge. Students will be able to answer what they want to know.
