Description:
This first project was group based, my group had four members in it. Our goal was to come up with a thematic unit that would be the base for the rest of our projects for the semester. We learned that a thematic unit is when all the subjects relate to one theme. Our group decided that our theme was going to be the importance of water, with the subjects of math, literacy, science, and social studies. For each subject we needed to have at least two Iowa Core Standards with at least three objectives. Within this project was also had to describe our students. This included their age, personal interests, and their background knowledge on the importance of water. We also needed to say what students were gifted or had disabilities, and accommodations we would make for them.. Our group used past and future curriculums to base our lesson standards for this thematic unit. Cross-disciplinary came into play when we connected all of subjects to each with the common theme being the importance of water. As the teachers we verbally taught the lessons and had hands on activities to go with each subject. Some of our students needed more help or were advanced. For these students we had a reading program, a bilingual teacher, and a gifted program. We also had four teachers co-teaching all of the

Everyone has experienced someone else judging him or her to a certain degree, and the diverse groups of students that I am working with at my field placement are certainly no exception. Luckily, the school culture promotes individuality and being who you want to be, but unfortunately being different isn’t promoted everywhere. Discriminating based off of how someone looks is more common than not, and my students are beginning to realize this as they begin to form their own opinions about current issues in society. This Thematic Unit has carefully and thoughtfully integrated students’ lives, and placed their lived experiences at the heart of this unit. Students will be required to reflect upon their own experiences growing up, and how these experiences…

Coming up with a topic that all three of us could agree on was supper hard because we all had different projects pictured in our minds. Nathan suggested child abuse but Nicholas and I do not find abuse interesting so that idea goes down the drain. I think about hypothermia/blanket for homeless people. As a month of planning, proposals, and meetings in the trash because the weather was no longer hot so we wanted to change the topic to something people need every single day of their lives. An idea I pushed for was water because you will survive one water longer than food for many reason.…

The study area, as identified in assignment one, is VCE computing unit 1, learning outcome 3, which emphasises heavily on the design and development stages of the PSM. In order to teach this, a teacher needs to have a strong grasp of the design principles, web development and project management. The learning areas I have identified are connected to the learning requirements of my recent placement: The immediate areas that I need to learn and update are highlighted (in red) in the curriculum map, and are sequenced and categorised as follows: • Theory: design principles and information architecture; and • Practical: Adobe Muse Creative Cloud (CC) as a web authoring tool, which supports (1) responsive web design for mobile devices (both tablets…

Reflecting on the overall unit plan as well as daily planning I think I implemented my objectives well and further by breaking down the psychomotor skill based upon students needs and feedback. This unit further gave me a better understanding in skill development by incorporating all all three learning domains (visual, auditory and kinesthetic) within the instruction period, and as a reinforcement tool during student’s practice/ on task time. Pre assessment results underline and further back this fact, based upon the fact that the skill was introduced only through visual cue giving. Auditory cues revealed to be most effective when accompanied as an aid with visual or kinesthetic cues.…

The thematic unit I created is aimed towards enhancing the learning of a first grade classroom. This first grade classroom consists of twenty-five students. The students will be focusing on the theme of winter over the next couple of months, which is why I chose to create a unit on winter animals and their hibernation process. I thought this would be a fun unit to incorporate in the classroom. The students in this classroom have been working on their writing skills as well as their reading skills.…

    1. Inquiry, inquiry based learning, is when simple observations turn into a curious question like “Why does it do that?” “Why does it change colors?” “What makes it move?”. Then that simple observation will catalyze an experiment, causing the individual to make a discovery proving that their idea is right or wrong.…

I am aware that in the social studies class, the students are learning about diverse places in the community. At the same time, in the science class the students are learning about measurements. One way to have a more thematic approach is for the students to use the same vocabulary words in the diverse classes. In addition, the students can create a presentation that may include information from all the classes and notice how the topics from the classes are interconnected to each…

Whole school inquiry frameworks are a fantastic way of developing understandings in the classroom. For the curriculum to be effective there needs to be a 'collaborative process where students and teachers have a voice ' (Preston, Harvie, & Wallace, 2015). Inquiry frameworks, encourage active involvement and collaboration from the students in constructing their knowledge which is essential to effective teaching and learning. Approaching learning through inquiry enhances investigation and the acquisition of knowledge as well as the development of broader concepts and generalisations that a single subject plan and curriculum doesn’t address (Hamston & Murdoch 1996). Project-based learning allows for year level planning and also class planning, through this style of planning students will tackle a local problem.…

The philosophy of education to me is ensuring that every student has the greatest opportunity to learn in a way that they learn the best. I feel most teachers believe the majority of students learn the same way and pace. Most believe, the more rigorous and the more repetitiveness of the material is correlates are successful methods for learning. I have been exposed to various types and styles of teaching and most they all have worked for different students at one point or another. But there have been many times throughout my formative and college years I’ve sat in a class and after seemingly hours of being lectured I realized that I didn’t remember a word the instructor said.…

Plants and Gardening The thematic unit, I’m so excited about and would like to create will be on plants and gardening for preschoolers. There are so many reasons why I chose this particular thematic unit, students and teacher interaction with one another, students will get the experience of learning, through using their fine and gross motor skills as they begin to grow plants and vegetables using their hands and interacting with other students to pick what they have grown or planted, they will use reading skills by reading picture books of plants and gardens and interputering what they see , art skills by drawing pictures of plants and gardens activities,…

Thematic approach provides a platform for integrating content areas in a way that makes sense to children and children have to learn by doing. Children are able to remember more information as it is not presented as isolated facts but as part of a whole. And, thematic approach encourages the involvement of all students through different themes relevant to them. Children are able to relate to real-life experiences and build on existing knowledge of a topic. Moreover, thematic approach helps children to make connections to transfer knowledge they learnt and apply in a meaningful way in real life.…
