Why Should Backpacks Be Allowed In Schools

You're walking down the hallway behind one of your classmates. Your books are piled high in your arms when someone comes from behind and knocks you right over. You look up to see your books and supplies spilled all over the hallway. Backpacks would be a simple solution. Many schools have taken away backpack privileges. Losing backpacks have caused many minor issues that are truly effecting on a student. Students at Harrisburg South Middle School should be allowed to carry their backpacks around because it would be more time effective, easier to carry supplies, and less students would forget things in their locker. Students have to stop at their locker after almost every class walk halfway across the school at times; carrying a backpack would be a more time efficient option. Many students classes are spread out across the school, and they are expected to make it to their next class within three minutes (Simphlay, Annie). The three minutes is not just time for traveling from class to class, but also to stop at your locker or bathroom. Many students get a tardie frequently. At South Middle School on an average each student gets 3-4 tardies per quarter (Burrack, Courtney). Backpacks could make these numbers go down drastically.
